December 2022
We hope this letter finds you all happy, healthy and full of holiday spirit!
2022 has been another amazing year for our family Molly (12) graduated from elementary school and started 6th grade at Louisville Middle School (yikes!) & Caden (15) graduated middle school and started 9th grade at Centaurus High School (double yikes!). As both kids were graduating we all finally got to experience the joys of COVID-19 (Omnicron variant) first hand…Caden was sick for about an hour, Molly never had any symptoms and the parents were laid out for a week.
Jon: The big news for me was that I started a new job at Ball Aerospace as an Engineering Manager. Like many, I opted to leave behind technical leadership and take on middle management. I really do enjoy the new job but it is easily the hardest thing I have ever done in my professional career. Hoping to make it a full year. Otherwise have been enjoying family time; riding in the passenger seat with Caden driving (triple yikes!), trying to keep up with Molly's endless creativity, and looking for all the moments I can spend with Katy. Life is very busy, but very good.
Katy: I personally haven’t had as many changes as the rest of my family…I’m still teaching at CorePower Yoga (4-6 classes/wk) but with two schools, sports & day to day life I’m still very busy! This fall I was lucky enough to go with my Mom on a trip to Amsterdam and England. We had 11 days between the two and had a fabulous time with exceptional weather! It was so special to have so much time with her and I’ll always cherish those memories!
Caden: This year has been crazy. I finished middle school and started at Centaurus high school. I played soccer at Centaurus which was super fun. We also went on some fun trips. We went to New York City and my Dad and I climbed Mt Whitney in California which was super fun and hard. Just recently I started wrestling which is also fun. I am also in the engineering program at Centaurus which is my favorite class. I got my permit and am learning how to drive which is really fun. This year has been super crazy and also really fun. I am looking forward to next year a lot.
Molly: I graduated elementary school and I was ready for it! We had a good summer starting of with an amazing trip to New York and mostly did normal summer stuff like Water World, Elitches, swimming, and hanging out with friends! I had a rough start to middle school with my first broken bone. I broke my arm at my delayed graduation party when I was balancing on a basketball! I wish my arm was the only thing making my start to middle school rough but people always say friends change but I never really believed it. Middle school is a lot lot harder then elementary school but I am slowly starting to get the hang of it. My favorite things about my year is I got a new friend for my guinea pig Peanut named Snickers! And I started tennis and took a break from horse back riding. That pretty much sums up my year and I hope my new year is even better!
As always travel is the highlight of our year. Our family started out the year in Universal Studios and Clearwater Beach Florida which was amazing until Louisville caught on fire...luckily our home was spared and we only had minimal smoke damage but 1,100 homes in our community were lost. Its been a year of clean up and now we are in the rebuilding process which is wonderful to see! We did our annual out of state ski trip to Taos, NM, a visit to Great Sand Dunes National Park, and an amazing Graduation trip to NYC & Cape Cod where we did it all (Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Wicked on Broadway, shopped and ate, and spent hours on the beach). We closed out the year with a pre-Thanksgiving getaway to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs in Buena Vista as a family & Jon and Katy got a long weekend in Napa together at the beginning of December. Having a tween and a teen has its moments for sure but its so fun to get to travel together and we always have a good time exploring new places together!
We hope your year was just as exciting and that we get to hear about you and your adventures. This decade so far has been anything but predictable with many more downs that ups, but we are all persevering, adapting, and ready to make 2023 even better!
Love,
Jonathan, Katy, Caden, and Molly
